A bequest is a gift made through an individual’s will, living trust or other estate documents.
- This type of legacy giving typically costs nothing to the donor during their lifetime and can provide significant tax benefits in some cases.
- A bequest may also qualify for various state and federal government incentives, such as income-tax deductions depending on which types are used by donors when they make the gifts from assets that have appreciated over time
